Week 5: Cultural Notables

Things to do:

  • Post your findings about cultural notables such as sports, food, etiquette, superstitions etc.
  • Ask questions or comment to at least 3 classmates.
  • Add some information to 2 of your classmates' works.
  • Start formatting your final Presentations.

Example: Japan

- Traditional arts: Ukiyoe, haiku, tea ceremony, kabuki, bonsai, flower arrangement, calligraphy.
- Taboos & bad manners of using chopsticks:
Never stick chopsticks vertically into a bowl of rice. That is how offerings are made to the dead.
Never pass food from chopsticks to chopsticks. That is how bones are handled by the family of the deceased after a cremation.
Don’t wave chopsticks around in the air above your food, as if wondering what to eat next.
  Don’t stick chopsticks into food.
   Don’t suck your chopsticks.
